Jet Set Style: The Thompson Beverly Hills Hotel

{The fabulous pool at the Thompson Beverly Hills offers sweeping views of Los Angeles.}

While Lauren and I were in Los Angeles working on the current issue of High Gloss, our friends at Mr and Mrs Smith were kind enough to arrange a stay for us at the fabulous Thompson Beverly Hills Hotel. When they suggested this particular hotel, we knew it would be fantastic as Mr and Mrs Smith are curators of some of the most amazing, boutique hotel properties around the globe. I always check their site when looking for hotels because I know that I’ll love their selections. They do all of the leg work for you, seeking out the most unique design hotels, checking them out first hand, reviewing them, and then offering their members fabulous deals along with a few extra special touches like upgrades and champagne upon arrival.

The Thompson Beverly Hills is part of a group of hotels that is synonymous with trendy, urban destinations and it is ideally located in Beverly Hills, just a hop, skip, and a jump from Rodeo Drive. The location of the hotel was ideal for us as we were shooting in Beverly Hills and West Hollywood that week and we never had to venture more than a few minutes from the Thompson.

Designed by Dodd Mitchell who opted for exotic finishes and custom-made furnishings, the Thompson Beverly Hills has a super cool, 1970s vibe. Not only are the rooms stylish down to the last detail, they are very comfortable as well. Each room is well stocked with Sferra linens and towels and designer toiletries by Bigelow.

The staff wears uniforms designed by Jenni Kayne in collaboration with fashion guru, Rachel Zoe. Fashion photographer, Steven Klein’s art graces the walls of the Thompson’s guestrooms and public spaces.

After a long day on set, we were too tired to go out for dinner, so we decided to eat at the Thompson restaurant. The service was attentive and warm and our food was even more delicious than it sounded on the menu. We loved the Lobster Tacos and the Pee Wee Potatoes, which have a bright burst of acidity, unlike anything I’ve ever had.

Going Tribal

All of the fabulous tribal patterns and styles popping up in both fashion and design have us wanting to go native! Best in small doses, we recommend pairing a statement-making tribal piece with neutral items.
